AMER FORT, JAIPUR - ANCIENT RESIDENCE OF THE MAHARAJAS

Amer-Fort-Jaipur, heritageofindia, Indian Heritage, World Heritage Sites in India, Heritage of India, Heritage IndiaHeritage of India - Amer fort or Amber Fort, An extravagant creation by Kachwaha's, placed 11 kilometers from Jaipur in Amer. This massive fort was made of red sandstone and white sandstone, overlooking Maotha Lake. This fort is also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the group Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

Amer Fort was originally built by Raja Man Singh I, who was trusted general of Great Mughal Emperor Akbar and included in Navratanas. His daughter Manorama Bai was married to Crown Prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Emperor Shah Jahan and brother of Aurangzeb.


This fort is best example of Indian architectural style. Major attraction of this beautifully designed fort are Sukh Niwas and Sheesh Mahal.

Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) at Amer Fort
Sheesh Mahal is the part which is world famous for its Mirror work, also known as Mirror Palace. Famous song from superhit classic movie "Mughal-E-Azam" i.e. "Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya" was shot in Amer Fort's Sheesh Mahal. Everything in Sheesh Mahal from beautiful paintings, walls, flowers and ceiling all are made with glass.

Sukh Niwas where cool climate is artificially created by winds that blow over a water cascade within the palace to keep it cool and pleasant in summers.
